Top rink honours went to skip Gerry White who was ably assisted by Matthew Gershenson, Steve Rogers and Robin Charlton, as they cruised to a 27-11 shot win. The Ladies travelled to Rhiwbina this evening and came home with a splendid 46-24 victory to secure their second win in three Evening League games so far. Linda Woodcock's rink lead the way romping home 27-11 whilst Judith Meddins rink backed that up with a six shot 19-13 victory.
Four wins from six games in May is a positive return for the Ladies section who have undoubtedly strengthened their roster this year.

Dinas Powys 1st team travelled to Ely Valley this afternoon for what was the biggest tie of the Carruthers knockouts for the Vale of Glamorgan, knowing that one decent team would not make the last 32 draw. For some of our players this was their first experience of playing at the Valley, but one they were looking forward to. Dinas knew being the underdogs against a strong looking Ely Valley team that it was a big challenge.
The game started evenly mixed with Dinas leading on two rinks, drawing on one and losing by six on the other on a very slick surface, with only four shots in it to the home side. But by the 10th end the Valley boys had begun to show their class with a few rinks picking up counts of four shots. This extended their lead to 22. Dinas tried to battle back but found it too big of a job and lost out by 37 shots. Well done to the Valley, and we wish them all the best in the rest of the competition. Great bunch of guys.
Shame we have to miss out. Final score, Dinas Powys 61-98 Ely Valley
Next week, Dinas will try to pick themselves up in another tricky fixture against local rivals Barry Athletic in their first league match of the season.

Our 'A' team travelled down to sunny Millwood in Barry with a number of experienced players and new players making there first appearance (Steve Rogers) in the league. It was a disappointing afternoon only coming away with two points out of the ten available in a very close game, with Dinas only losing by five shots overall. It was the rink of Tony Gittings, Keith Davies, Chris Scott and veteran skip Arty Woodcock that secured the two points for the Dinas boys.

A trip to Cadoxton was the offering for the Munro Cup midweek team this week with Dinas again fielding five lady members in their rinks. The first six ends were very even with three rinks tied but Dinas holding a slender four shot lead at 21-17 courtesy of Ritchie Janes rink being seven to three in front. The home side however took control of the tie over the next six ends, picking up two fives to accelerate into a six shot lead after 12 ends. Ritchie Janes' rink, with Denise Letts, Belinda Morgan and Chris Daw romped to an impressive 28-7 rink win, but despite their best efforts Dinas, for the second successive week, slipped to a narrow defeat, eventually going down 63-68 and picking up just the two points.

Dinas midweek team entertained Barry Athletic in the Munro Cup today on a lovely fine and sunny evening fit for summer bowls. Dinas, with five lady members in their ranks, started positively and after six of the scheduled 18 ends had been played held a slender two shot advantage. Over the next six ends Dinas were able to extend their lead to 13 shots, largely due to the rink of Tony Gittings, Diane Morgan, Arty Woodcock and Matthew Gershenson, who had opened up a nine shot lead. With Dinas looking set for victory as the game moved into the closing ends Barry Athletic staged a big fightback and with Scott Howells rink picking up a three on the last end it was the visitors who took the spoils, by the narrowest of margins, winning 63-64.
Congratulations to Barry Athletic on their hard fought win on an enjoyable evening for all.

Dinas entertained Pontycymmer today at St Andrews Road on a sunny afternoon. After the first five ends Dinas had established a healthy 21 shot lead, Pontycymmer fought back and after 10 ends that lead had reduced to only 12 shots. But with the rink of Terry Bratcher, Tim Hurcom, Darren Turner and Chris Chapman picking up a four and a three and on Rink two Steve Linney, Robin Charlton, Ritchie Janes and Mike Ackland adding a three and a count of five, by the 16th end Dinas had extended their shot lead to 15 across the board. The visitors stuttered over the final ends and Dinas ran out eventual winners by 31shots at 99-68.
We wish Pontycymmer all the best for rest of the season. It was also great to see Pontycymmer moving forward with a lady club captain, all the best to Nicola Rowlands and her team.

Dinas started the defence of their midweek league Munro Cup crown this evening with a trip to Barry Central BC. Ladies Glenn Watts and Belinda Morgan each made their first midweek team starts with Keith Davies making his Dinas debut on a very heavy green. Dinas got off to a steady start largely thanks to Gareth Griffiths' rink who raced in to an 11-1 lead after seven ends. Paul Marks rink were behind 5-11 but finished very strongly, winning the last seven ends and picking up 24 shots to win 29-11. With Ritchie Janes and Mike Ackland's rink also victorious Dinas picked up the full 14 points with a 93-46 win.

Dinas opened their 2023 season and Carruthers Shield campaign today with a home fixture against Porthcawl. The home side have recruited strongly over the winter months and with four players, Ian Patterson, Darren Turner, Terry Bratcher and Chris Chapman all on debut, started strongly in the blazing sunshine establishing an 11 shot lead after five ends. By the 10th end the rink of T&C's, Terry Bratcher, Tim Hurcom and Chris's Williams and Chapman had moved 21-1 ahead giving Dinas a healthy lead. At the halfway stage Dinas were edging further away at 40 shots, helped by a six from T&C's rink and a seven on Mike 'Pickles' Prosser's rink - the wood missing from the count was Elgan Goodman Evans!
Dinas eventually ran out convincing winners by 91 shots at 131-40 winning on all four rinks. Dinas would like to wish Porthcawl all the best for the season and hope that they can get their green sorted out, so they can get back to playing games at home.
