In a highly anticipated Division 2 league clash, Dinas Powys travelled to Gilfach Bargoed for what turned out to be an intense and thrilling match. The home side started the game with a strong performance, but Dinas proved that they were in it for the long haul.
At the halfway stage of the match, the scores on the different rinks were as follows: Woodcock's rink from Dinas Powys was leading the charge with a score of 10-5 against Wood, Bowen's rink was trailing behind with a score of 8-10 against Williams, Prosser's rink was struggling at 4-17 against Crocker, and Chapman's rink was also facing a deficit with a score of 5-14.
However, the second half saw a remarkable comeback from the visitors. They displayed great resilience and determination, eventually turning the tide in their favour. With an outstanding performance, they managed to win the game on three rinks and clinch victory by an overall margin of three shots.
In the final scores after 21 ends, Woodcock's rink emerged victorious with a convincing win of 19-9. Bowen's rink also showcased their skills and determination, securing a hard-fought victory with a score of 20-16. Chapman's rink exhibited excellent teamwork and skill, prevailing with a score of 28-22. Unfortunately, Prosser's rink couldn't turn things around completely and lost with a score of 14-31.
Overall, it was a tremendous effort by Dinas, displaying their ability to rally and perform under pressure. Their strong second half performance paved the way for their well-deserved victory, showcasing the club's skill and determination. The players exhibited great sportsmanship throughout the match, making it an enjoyable and memorable contest for both teams and the spectators present.
The win will undoubtedly boost the confidence of the Dinas Powys Bowls Club players as they continue their campaign in Division 2. They can take pride in their remarkable comeback and use this victory as a stepping stone for future successes in the league.

It was also a remarkably good day for our 'A' team who recorded a thumping 85-39 victory at home to Millwood 'A'. Undoubtedly the highlight was a 'Hot Shot' eight on the 15th end from the rink of Roy Davies, Neil Williams, Walter Williams and Paul Marks as they cruised to a 38-11 win. This was backed up by the rink of Tony Gittings, John Manfield, Robin Charlton and Gerry White, who scored three fives as they convincingly won 34-9.

Dinas entertained Llantrisant today in very humid conditions. Dinas started fast out of the blocks, leading by 12 shots after five ends. They never looked back, leading by 24 shots on 10 ends it was more of a case now of how many points Dinas could secure. They almost got the 14 with a fight back by the rink of Matt Gershenson, Andrew Harvey, Richard Janes and Gareth Griffiths picking up a seven on the 19th end, but with some on point bowling by the Llantrisant skip O'Feefe they lost by just one shot.

The midweek team made another trip to Sully on Wednesday, this time taking on Sully Sports, and returned home victorious as they recorded their fourth win of the season by 24 shots overall, picking up 12 points as they battle to retain their Munro Cup crown.
Dinas started confidently and at the half way stage had established a 19 shot advantage, largely due to Paul Marks rink leading by 12. Both Belinda Morgan and Denise Letts were to the fore as a dynamic front end duo on the rink. Not to be outdone Sonia Letts was also starring on Chris Daw's rink with a 'back toucher' on the 11th end, as they won 24-16. All five ladies in the ranks once again played their part in a very solid team performance.  Final score - Dinas Powys 74-50 Sully Sports

Today was all about the 2nd team for Dinas Powys with a trip to Mackintosh. Dinas started the stronger leading by 10 shots after five ends across the board. By 15 ends this was extended to 15 shots with excellent bowls by Dinas Powys Mayor Marksy and Elgan Evans. Dinas ran out winners on all three rinks, picking up 10 points. Well done boys!

Dinas Powys 76-46 Mackintosh
Meanwhile the Dinas 1st team travelled to Cardiff Sophia Gardens in a friendly but it was nothing of the type. Dinas started the game the stronger leading by three shots after 10 ends in what was a competitive friendly - Brian Sage taking the shot three times rather than risking it for a biscuit proved it was a fixture to win at all costs! But Dinas ran out winners on three rinks with some superb bowling from Andrew Harvey and Alex Meddins (who had returned home after three years out).
We thank Cardiff for their hospitality and wish them all the best for rest of season and hope to reverse this fixture next year
Rink scores: C Chapman 14-23 B "take the shot 3 times" Sage    G Griffiths 25-19 S Mansfield    M Woodcock 24-15 L Magee

The midweek team made the short trip to Sully on another glorious sunny evening for their fifth Munro Cup tie of the season.
On a very difficult green Ritchie Janes' rink quickly got into their stride and had established an eight shot lead of 10-2 after six ends, which in turn helped Dinas lead overall by 11 with the other three rinks close. Over the next six ends Janes rink romped further ahead to 25-4 as the visitors established an unassailable 31 shot advantage and were in front on three of the four rinks and level on the fourth. Dinas eventually cruised to a 39 shot win, with Paul Marks rink picking up a four on the 16th end as they just edged home by a single shot in the most closely contested rink. Final score - Dinas Powys 91-52 Sully

Saturday 3rd June 2023
Today the Smurfs travelled to sunny Barrybados to take on the the mighty Barry Athletic boys in what was built up a bigger game than the F.A. cup final.
Dinas started fastest out of the blocks and were up by 14 shots after five ends across the board with three rinks winning and one drawing. The away side, with a point to prove after last weeks defeat, didn't let up and took a commanding lead at the halfway stage of 29 shots and now all rinks flowing.
By 15 ends the rink of Martin Clarke had given Barry a glimmer of hope to be within one shot with six ends to play. That rink all came down to the last bowl with shots going back and for. Dinas were holding the two for the win but a drive from Martin managed to hit a short Barry bowl into the head and cut this down to one to earn a hard fought point for the home side.
The Dinas rinks of Terry's 'chocolate orange' Bratcher, Elgan Evans, ex-Barry stalwart Richard Bowen and Big Chris Chapman, and Steve Linney, Tim Hurcom, Darren 'sleeves' Turner and Mike 'the Whip' Ackland never let up to run out comfortable winners.
On the last remaining rink, skipped by former Dinas player Dean Rees, it was a battle in which the Barry skip never gave up - eight shots down with two ends to play there was still a glimmer of hope, but Matt Gershenson, Dave Vowles, Gareth Griffiths and Mike 'Pickles' Prosser saw the game out, dropping just a one and three to win by four shots.
Final score - Dinas Powys 92-60 Barry Athletic
Dinas would like to wish Barry Athletic all the best for next week and rest of the season.
