Match reports for August 2022 return to latest news
Wednesday 31st August 2022
Four days after their last meeting Dinas entertained Pontyclun again tonight in another rearranged PG fixture with the home side getting off to a flying start on the quick surface. After five ends the home side were leading by 21 shots, this increased to 50 shots by the 10th end with a seven and four five's across the green. Pontyclun, due to the Fielding brothers, fought back on two rinks to have a chance going into the last ends, but Dinas held on to take all 14 points, running out victors by 101-51. Dinas wish Pontyclun all the best in their remaining games of the season.

Dinas Powys travelled to Pontyclun today and after their win in mid-week they were looking to keep their form going. Dinas started slowly and after five ends across the board were six shots down. By 10 ends the away side had turned the game in their favour to lead by 14 shots. There was a good battle on two rinks, but the away side had two rinks that never looked in doubt. Some great bowling from Rhys Fielding's rink earned Pontyclun a 25-19 win and a further win for the home side was secured by R Price after two great running bowls on the last 2 ends. Dinas won the game by 13 shots, 82-69 and 10 points to four. Top honours went to the rink of Dave Parker, Tim Hurcom, Gareth Griffiths and Mike 'Pickles' Prosser.

Last night Dinas Powys entertained St Fagans in the PG1 on a damp, but humid night. It was the home team that started quicker out of the blocks with a 19 shot lead by 5 ends. On the 10th end the game was almost secure for Dinas with the rink of Dave Vowels, Ciaran Leaden, Chris 'Legend' Williams and Matt Woodcock having a 24 shots to one lead. The other two home rinks were pulling away, but the Chris Chapman St Fagans rink was giving some hope to the visitors of securing two much needed points. Dinas eventually ran out winners by 40 shots at 86-46 to keep their chances of promotion alive.

Dinas Powys entertained Guest Memorial today in PG1, their first home game for over two months. Although the home side were missing a few players today that didn't affect their performance, they got off to a great start to lead the visitors by 8 shots. The home side managed to bring this to a healthy 21 shot lead on 10 ends with 3 rinks up and 1 down. Dinas never looked back and ran out comfortable winners on a good playing surface with all rinks winning and taking the full 14 points available. Final score - Dinas Powis 107-66 Guest Memorial. This coming Wednesday Dinas entertain St Fagans at home.

Dinas concluded the Munro Cup season with a visit to their nearest neighbours at The Murch this evening. Playing an 18 end game the visitors started brightly and after six ends had established a 12 shot lead, at 22-10, with Tim Hurcom's rink 9-1 ahead. Over the next six ends Dinas were able to further extend their advantage to 28 shots, as Tim's rink of Lougher, Locker and Hotchkiss were finding rink 2 to their liking, picking up a six as they went further ahead 21-3 after 12 ends. With both Mike Ackland and Robin Charlton's rink seemingly well placed Dinas held a 54-26 advantage. Over the final six ends the home side battled back and after dropping a five and three on ends 15 and 16 Ackland had to settle for a draw. Meanwhile Robin Charlton's rink fought off a valiant home fightback to just edge home 14-13. The game finished with Dinas winning 72-52 and collecting 11 points to round off a very impressive unbeaten season, recording 14 wins from 14 games, and retaining the Munro Cup.

No first team game for Dinas Powys today but our 2nd team travelled to Ely Valley on what can only be described as one of the hottest bowls day of the season. Dinas got off to a three shot lead after five ends against the home side who only had 10 players to our 11. By the 10th end the away side had extended their lead to 13 shots. By 15 ends this had extended to 18 shots, and with the game only being played over 18 ends, due to the hot conditions, Dinas were in the driving seat. With Dinas scoring 19 shots to 6 over the last four ends they ran out easy winners 60 shots to 33.25 shots, collecting all 10 points on offer.

Dinas played their penultimate Munro Cup game on a blisteringly hot Wednesday evening when they hosted Penarth Rectory Road. The home side got off to a quick start on a fast green and after six of the 18 ends had been played had established a very healthy 20 shot lead, at 31-11 ahead on all four rinks. The middle six ends were more evenly contested and indeed the visitors were able to claw back three shots and take the lead on one rink. After 12 ends Dinas were 50-33 ahead. The home then pushed on again over the final six ends with counts of five scored on both rinks one and six, whilst President Paul Marks' rink, surprisingly not on rink six, picked up nine shots over the last four ends to run out 31-14 winners. A game played in glorious conditions, and good spirit by both sides, ended with Dinas winning 91-52, picking up 12 points and maintaining their unbeaten Munro Cup season, with one more hurdle to overcome, in a visit to our nearest neighbours over The Murch next week.

Dinas Powys travelled to Whitchurch today for their second game of the weekend on a hot day, with the bowls going in all directions and the jack's even turning on themselves. The home side started the better finding themselves 10 shots up after five ends. The visitors fought hard to reduce this to eight with Mike Prosser's rink picking up a massive seven shots on end eight. But the struggling visitors were finding it hard to get to grips with the green and with one Whitchurch rink picking up 14 shots in four ends the home side were able to extend their lead back to 13 shots. By the 21st end Whitchurch had secured the victory taking 12 points with it 84-63. Dinas wish Whitchurch all the best in getting their green back to the surface most are more accustomed to.

Dinas Powys travelled to Llanbradach, one of the favourites for promotion to the top flight of the PG league, hoping for a good result. The visitors didn't initially take advantage of Llanbradach missing a few players and found themselves four shots behind after five ends on a very quick surface. By end 10 the home side had extended their lead to seven shots with both teams having 2 rinks up and 2 rinks down. After a much needed squash break (very appreciated) Dinas then got into their stride and by the 15th end had built up a lead of four shots.
The last five ends saw the score flip back and forth with counts coming out of the blue to win on some rinks and lose
on others, but by the end it was Dinas who ran out worthy winners by 14 shots, 91-77, with both sides having two winning rinks. Dinas Powys thank Llanbradach for their hospitality and wish them all the best for the season. Tomorrow Dinas also travel to Whitchurch, another promotion favourite, hoping to gain some more points to make it a successful weekend.

Game twelve of the Munro Cup season saw the midweek team travel to the artificial green in Cowbridge, with two late changes to the team meaning a slight reshuffle of resources. Despite the rink of D Lougher, D Letts, W Williams and M Ackland picking up an eight on end three, to lead 10-3, Dinas got off to a dreadful start overall and after six ends across the board trailed by 22 shots at 17-39. To their credit the team found their range and over the next six ends were able to close the gap to just the one shot at 47-48, with two rinks up and two down. By this stage momentum was very much in the visitors favour and with three rinks being closely fought Dinas were able to finish the job off with a 12 shot victory 74-62 with two rinks narrowly squeaking home by one shot. Credit to all the players for showing great fighting spirit to keep the unbeaten run going, with two games left to play this season.
