                                                                                                                                                                   return to latest news

The Vale of Glamorgan County Finals have been taking place over the course of the past week and once again Dinas Powis bowlers have featured prominently

On Monday 6th July Barry Athletic hosted the Open Fours final which has contested between two Dinas rinks. This was a very closely fought contest that required an extra end before a winner could be found, with the rink of Joe Coles, Dave Parker, Matthew Gershenson and Ritchie Janes coming out on top, somewhat against the bookies odds, against David Vowles, Clive Todd, Mike Ackland and Chris Blake.

On Tuesday 7th the Open Singles Final saw Ritchie Janes produce a magnificent 21-18 win over recently crowned British Isles Champion Jason Greenslade.  Joe Coles was successful in the Under 18 Singles with a resounding 21-2 victory over Liam Tanner of Barry Central, whilst unfortunately Mike Ackland was defeated in the Two Bowl Singles by Alun Rees of Sully, and David James and Richard Cowling went down to defeat in the Senior Pairs.

Friday 10th July saw Penarth Windsor play host to a further three finals. Dinas pair Connor Parsons and Joe Coles contested the Under 25 Singles Final with Connor coming out on top 21-16.

In the Senior Fours Final the Dinas rink of Dave Parker, Dave Ireland, Jerry White and Richard Cowling were worthy 17-6 victors against a Colin James led Millwood rink, with the game finishing two ends early as Colin conceded defeat.

In the Open Pairs Final the Dinas pair of Andrew Harvey and Gareth Griffiths were in front for a long period of their game against Barry Athletic's Glyn Thomas and Rob Horgan before slipping to a narrow two shot defeat at the death.

Congratulations to all the winners, who will now go forward to represent the club at the National Finals in Llandrindod Wells in August and commiserations to all the defeated finalists.
