The midweek team ventured to Barry Romilly on Wednesday 10th June, full of confidence having won all four of their first Munro Cup fixtures, but returned disappointed having suffered their first defeat of the season by a narrow six shots, 62-68.
Dinas started the game well and after nine ends were in front on three rinks, having established what looked like a healthy 10 shot lead, largely through Alun Jones' rink who had moved 11-5 clear. The other three rinks were all been closely contested with Dinas holding slender leads on two rinks, 10-6 and 10-8, whilst trailing 6-8 on the third.
Sadly for Dinas over the second nine ends Jones' rink lost their rhythm, surrendering their hard fought early 11-5 advantage before falling to a two shot 15-17 defeat. The remaining three rinks continued to hotly contested. With Ken Bull making his maiden appearance for the villagers, Ritchie Janes rink fell just short losing 17-19. Paul Mark's rink shared nine ends apiece before going down 13-16, whilst it was left to Matthew Gershenson's rink to salvage two points for Dinas, squeaking home against a Freddie Phillips four, by one shot 17-16.
Disappointment at a first defeat of the season hung in the air after the game, but both sides enjoyed what was a keenly fought encounter played out in good spirits and sportsmanship throughout.
Dinas will no doubt look to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to play Barry Central, next Wednesday, 17th June.
