The first round of this season's Alun Martin Memorial Cup, saw Dinas drawn away to Sully on Sunday 29th June. With regular first team skips Mike Ackland and Ritchie Janes making themselves available for selection, Club Captain Tim Hurcom was delighted that Dinas were able to put out a strong looking team for what was always going to be a tricky encounter, in this two rink knockout competition.

On an unusually pleasant afternoon in 'Costa Del Sully' Dinas started in positive fashion, and by the half way stage had established a healthy, but far from insurmountable, seven shot advantage.

During the second half, Janes' rink then began to take a firm grip, at one stage holding a seven, only for home skip, Brian Griffiths, who had a fine game all afternoon, to lay an excellent wood and draw shot with his final bowl. Indeed Griffiths repeated a similar feat some three ends later, to again save four shots, and whilst Dinas eventually came out on top by 10 shots on the rink, 24-14, the margin of victory might have been far greater but for his intervention.

On the 2nd rink, Mike Ackland and Co were having a much closer encounter against a Carl Best lead home quartet, and with Dinas nudging into an 18-14 lead at the close of the 19th end, Best called a halt to proceedings, knowing that the match was out of reach for Sully with Dinas 14 shots in front overall.

An excellent result for the Dinas eight, all of whom played well, and who now go forward to face Cadoxton, in a home tie to be played later in July.
