Dinas Powis made it through to the last 16 of this season's Carruthers Shield competition with a dogged 93-73 shot victory over Bryn Welfare, yesterday 5th July 2014.

With usual skip Mike Ackland unavailable due to illness, Dinas were forced into a late change, with brother Chris moving up to lead the rink and 2nd team captain Paul Marks being drafted in.

Despite home advantage it was the visitors that started in determined mood and after seven ends they had just edged ahead by three, 27-30, having picked up 'counts' of five and six on the Ackland and Meddins rinks.

Over the next seven ends the game remained close, with Dinas able to overturn the deficit and move four shots ahead, with the momentum seemingly swinging in the home team's favour.

Indeed, this was to be the case as, over the next five ends Dinas exerted more pressure, and as the Bryn challenge faded, the home side moved out into a 19 shot, unassailable winning position.

Leading the way for Dinas was Chris Blake's rink, with Hugh Meddins finding the home comfort of rink one very much to his liking, as they powered to an excellent 18 shot win to provide the backbone for the team's victory.

After the game, which was played out in a very sporting manner, Bryn's Captain Ceri Jones was rightly proud of his teams efforts as they pushed Dinas for much of the game, before finally bowing out.

Dinas will now entertain Old Landorians in round three of the competition with the tie to be played on July 19th.
