Dinas Powis hosted Old Landorians on Saturday 19th, in the last 16 of the Carruthers Shield and in a closely fought encounte ultimately went out in agonizing fashion, losing after an extra end was required to decide the outcome of a thrilling game.

Landorians, who included ex Dinas favourite Jamie Cross in their ranks, led by five shots after the opening quarter but by halfway Dinas had taken a one-shot lead, and went on to increase their advantage to five shots at the 15-end mark, before going 13 shots in front two ends later.

The visitors continued to battle on gamely in the closing stages, and managed to reduce the deficit to four shots going into the final end of the match, although at that stage many amongst their ranks had seemingly conceded defeat.

However, Landorians skip Gavin Rees had an outside chance of taking the match into an extra end and he duly planted the nearest two Dinas bowls into the ditch with his final delivery, to claim four shots, leaving the scores level.

With this, the momentum clearly swung in the visitors favour, and on the extra end three of their skips overturned shots against them, as Old Landorians sealed a comeback victory at 88-82.
