Following the disappointment of relegation from Division 1 last season, the first team's quest, for an immediate return to the top flight, had so far seen them record an unblemished eight wins from eight games, to sit top of Division 2 with a further six games still to play.
On Saturday 10th August, they played hosts to a Pontyclun team they had beaten, by some 22 shots, in the reverse fixture a little under a month ago, looking to extend both their unbeaten run, and lead at the top to the table.
The first third of the game saw mixed fortunes for both sides. Captain Ritchie Janes' rink got off to a disastrous start, trailing 0-15, countered by Mike Ackland's rink who had forged 10-1 in front. At this stage, the visitors held a narrow three shot lead.
This trend continued through the middle stages of the game. Ackland's rink continued to build their lead to 16, but unfortunately Janes' rink fell a further six shots behind. With the home team holding slender leads on the remaining two rinks, Dinas had reduced the visitor's advantage to just one shot.
Expectations, for a final flourish by the league leaders, however didn't materialise, and by the finish the two slender leads had been lost and Dinas slipped to a first league defeat of the season by nine shots, picking up only two points.
With a handful of first team regulars unavailable, it was something of a makeshift Dinas team that went out onto the rink. This however, could in no way detract from a hugely impressive and spirited performance from Pontyclun, who, lead by the twins of Gavin and Rhys Fielding, ably supported by Hugh 'Boogie' Morris, all of whom won their respective rinks, were worthy winners.
