As the season comes to a close, Dinas Bowls Club reflects on the outstanding camaraderie witnessed on the greens. The fate of our season depends on Whitchurch's results, so we will await the next week to see if we dont have to play Nicky every week! Seriously though, whichever team does make promotion they have certainly earned it. Division 2 has delivered an exceptional season of bowls, with suspense and excitement lasting right until the very end. It has been a top-class year for all involved.

Last night, Dinas travelled to Whitchurch in their penultimate game of the season. There are four teams still chasing the promised land, so it was all to play for. The home team raced into a four shot lead after five ends, leading on three rinks and their barmy army were in full voice. By the 10th end not much had changed but an extra two shots meant that Whitchurch were six up. By the 15th end Whitchurch had extended this to 14 shots and looked on their way to taking all 14 points available, with three rink up and only one trailing by two shots. But as the dark came Dinas's half time snack of carrots did start to kick in but not fast enough. With three rinks left on and only the floodlight scoreboard shining, Dinas fought back, the rink of T Bratcher, C Daw, R Bowen C Chapman picked up a five on the last end - all be it with a bit of help from the sky's to get two points available on his rink and leave the game in the balance. The rink of Matt Woodcock was next to finish in what a great tussle all the way through and just managed to run out winners 18-15. This left Mike Ackland's rink, who had let an early lead slip against the very talented Malcolm Mitchell, needing a four on last end to win the game, having picked up a four on 17th end to lead 18-17, it wasn't impossible. But the whip just fell short and Whitchurch picked up a one and a fully deserved overall win.
Final score - Whitchurch 72 (9pts) Dinas Powis 67 (5pts)
This makes a interesting end to the league and a cracking season for all the teams still involved. (MW)
